The Rev. Vincent M. Cooke, S.J., announced that the College will name the newly renovated theatre in the 1908 Building the Marie Maday Theatre in honor of the longtime benefactor.

Canisius University was named to Success Magazine's list of "25 Schools to Watch" in its September 1995 issue, which highlighted the "25 Best Business Schools for Entrepreneurs".

An announcement was made that the BPO (Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra) will begin a series of chamber music concerts, Informally Formal, beginning September 26th in the Grupp Fireside Lounge in Canisius' Student Center.

A $125,000 grant was received to assist at-risk high school students. The "STARS (Southtown At-Risk Students) ACHIEVE" program will identify approximately 1,000 at-risk students and offer them a variety of activities and intervention programs.

Ground breaking for new student townhouse complex on the west side of Main Street. Completion set for fall, 1996.

Announcement that a new lecture series will begin in November. The "Jesuit Lecture Series" will begin on November 15 when Rev. Edward T. Dunn, S.J., associate professor of history at Canisius University, introduces the series with his lecture on Buffalo's Railroads.

Canisius University was ranked second in U.S. News and World Report's annual list of America's Best College Values among Regional Universities in the North. Canisius University was also ranked, according to Money magazine, among the nation's top 150 colleges in terms of value for the money.

A $490,000 Urban Community Service Program Grant was received through the United States Department of Education to research economic development in the City of Buffalo.

Dr. Piotr Wrobel, associate professor of Polish history at the University of Toronto, delivered the first annual Marek B. Zaleski Memorial Lecture. The lecture, sponsored by the Permanent Chair of Polish Culture, was titled 1945: Poland at the End of World War II. Dr. Zaleski, for whom the annual lecture is named, died in December 1994.

The Holling Press of Buffalo was presented a bronze award by the International Association of Printing House Craftsmen, Inc. for superb craftsmanship in the production of the Viewbook. Publications Director, Mary Lou Littlefield, designed the viewbook, used by the college for recruitment.
A $330,000 federal grant received to fund Athletes in Service to Buffalo, which is part of a $1.6 million AmeriCorps grant awarded to the Center for the Study of Sport in Society at Northeastern University, Boston. The program is designed to encourage academic success and prevent violence through tutoring and workshops offered by athletes, who serve as role models to 11- to 15-year olds in Buffalo city schools.

Jay Horowitz, director of media relations for the New York Mets, was at Canisius to address the students enrolled in graduate program in sport administration. The purpose of his visit was to help prepare students currently in the sport administration program for middle-management positions with colleges and universities upon graduation from the program.
